Visions of a restless identity
From 28 April to 11 June 2023, FOTOGRAFIA EUROPEA, the festival dedicated to contemporary photography, returns to Reggio Emilia.
The theme of this edition – Europe matters: visions of a restless identity – reflects on the idea of Europe, the ideals that constitute it, and questions the roots of our individual and collective identity.
Twenty exhibitions and over fifty artists in six venues in the historic centre of Reggio Emilia with the artistic direction of Tim Clark (editor of 1000 Words and Photo London Discovery curator), Walter Guadagnini (photography historian and Director of Camera, Torino) and Luce Lebart (exhibition curator and researcher for the Archive of Modern Conflict Collection).

During the opening days – 28, 29, 30 April and 1 May – a rich calendar of events: conferences (Rosella Postorino, Paolo Rumiz, Emilio Isgrò and Elena Loewenthal); talks with the festival’s leading photographers, book launchs and Fotofonia, the musical declination of Fotografia Europea curated by Max Casacci, producer and founder of Subsonica.
Whitemary, Indian Wells, Spime.im and Alessandro Cortini will perform in Piazza Prampolini. Then, on Sunday 30, in a very special location such as the Church of San Francesco, Earthphonia Planet, an unprecedented and hyper-technological show of sound, images, and the story of nature with Max Casacci and Professor Stefano Mancuso.
