From 29 April to 12 June 2022 Fotografia Europea in Reggio Emilia returns once more, the photography festival promoted and produced by the Fondazione Palazzo Magnani in collaboration with the Municipality of Reggio Emilia and with support from the Emilia-Romagna Regional Council.
The artistic directors of the Festival – Tim Clark (curator, writer and founder of 1000 Words) and Walter Guadagnini (director of Camera, Turin) – take inspiration for the theme of the 2022 edition from a phrase by the great French writer Albert Camus, which powerfully captures the image of how our inner strength, even in the dead of winter, inevitably tends to be unleashed in the ultimate triumph and the constant renewal of life.
Twenty-two exhibitions set up in ten locations in the historic centre of Reggio Emilia: stories and tales that aim to stimulate new points of view along with an all-round reflection on the complexity of the world.
Works by: Mary Ellen Mark, Nicola Lo Calzo, Hoda Afshar, Carmen Winant, Seiichi Furuya, Ken Grant, Guanyu Xu, Chloé Jafé, Jonas Bendiksen, Alexis Cordesse, Anaïs Chabeur, Jitka Hanzlovà, Simona Ghizzoni, Gloria Oyarzabal, Maxime Richè, Luigi Ghirri, Alessandra Calò, Marcello Coslovi, Chiara Ernandes, Claudia Fuggetti, Caterina Morigi, Giulia Parlato, Riccardo Svelto, Giulia Vanelli, Maria Clara Macrì, Vasco Ascolini, Carlo Valsecchi, Arianna Arcara.
In addition to the exhibitions, the Festival will also feature a calendar of events during the three opening days – 29, 30 April and 1 May: lectures, meetings with artists, book presentations, portfolio reviews, workshops, a book fair showcasing independent publishers, as well as shows created to foster cultural exchange that – starting from photography – also addresses transversal issues, involving an increasingly vast and various audience who know they will find the very best of what contemporary photography has to offer right here in Reggio Emilia.
